Summary

In the cloud-washed airspace between the cornfields of Illinois and blue infinity, a man puts his faith in the propeller of his biplane。 For disillusioned writer and itinerant barnstormer Richard Bach, belief is as real as a full tank of gas and sparks firing in the cylinders。。。until he meets Donald Shimoda — former mechanic and self-described messiah who can make wrenches fly and Richard's imagination soar。。。。

In Illusions, Richard Bach takes to the air to discover the ageless truths that give our souls wings: that people don't need airplanes to soar。。。that even the darkest clouds have meaning once we lift ourselves above them。。。 and that messiahs can be found in the unlikeliest places — like hay fields, one-traffic-light midwestern towns, and most of all, deep within ourselves。

I had seen many positive recommendations for this book after reading and thoroughly enjoying Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach。 I felt like I just didn't connect with Illusions as much as I did with 'JLS' and I found the first person, two way conversation throughout the entire book rather repetitive and boring。 I had seen many positive recommendations for this book after reading and thoroughly enjoying Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach。 I felt like I just didn't connect with Illusions as much as I did with 'JLS' and I found the first person, two way conversation throughout the entire book rather repetitive and boring。 。。。more

Genuinely liked this book and resonated with many principles explored in it。 I had a very hard time getting involved in the story enough to be able to read long sections at a time, though。

I read this book in a few hours。 Lots to digest from a short little book。 Some say this book changed their life。 I don’t feel the same。 BUT: There are many meaningful quotes in the book。 This one is the most powerful to me: Here is a test to find whether your mission on earth is finished: If you’re alive, it isn’t。

This book changed my life - twice。

I loved this book because it has the same kind of character type as the celestial bar。 The messiah that Richard comes to meet is similar to the guides of diggers dream which was my favourite part of the story anyway。 The book is rich with wisdom because the story of the characters was not the authors focus, for example we don’t know much about the main characters school life, home life, work life, or love life as reader all you will know about the main character is that he flys people around for I loved this book because it has the same kind of character type as the celestial bar。 The messiah that Richard comes to meet is similar to the guides of diggers dream which was my favourite part of the story anyway。 The book is rich with wisdom because the story of the characters was not the authors focus, for example we don’t know much about the main characters school life, home life, work life, or love life as reader all you will know about the main character is that he flys people around for money。 The book is beautiful and everything about it was perfect❤️ 。。。more

Thank you to my buddy AE for recommending and loaning this one。 Good quick read but it's a great wake up call/reminder that your reality is what you make it。 This is a book with some answers but it sure doesn't throw it in your face。 Thank you to my buddy AE for recommending and loaning this one。 Good quick read but it's a great wake up call/reminder that your reality is what you make it。 This is a book with some answers but it sure doesn't throw it in your face。 。。。more

Interesting, very Buddhist and philosophical。 Everything that matters is only perspective。 We choose to make it matter or not matter, and choose our own life and path。

My father loaned me this book when I was 14, that was back in 1980。This is a book that is wondrous and opens your mind。 I've read it many times and need to replace it。 I was hoping to find it as an audio book。 Sadly, all there are, are old cassette versions。 I hope that an audio book is on the horizon。 My father loaned me this book when I was 14, that was back in 1980。This is a book that is wondrous and opens your mind。 I've read it many times and need to replace it。 I was hoping to find it as an audio book。 Sadly, all there are, are old cassette versions。 I hope that an audio book is on the horizon。 。。。more

Read this many moons ago, but it kept popping into my mind over and over throughout the years。 Finally read it again, still as good as I remembered。 I would very much like to meet someone like you Don Shimoda!

A simple parable with the believe that each one could be the Messiah since each one has the ability to let go of rocks holding him in the bottom of the stream and surrender to the current !。He will reach the point of utter freedom, he will rise above all illusions, his senses will evolve and allow him to travel through other dimensions and other worlds, fearlessly。 。That decision falls a pall of loneliness on the Messiah。 His voice speaking the truth but the ears are deaf with illusions, people A simple parable with the believe that each one could be the Messiah since each one has the ability to let go of rocks holding him in the bottom of the stream and surrender to the current !。He will reach the point of utter freedom, he will rise above all illusions, his senses will evolve and allow him to travel through other dimensions and other worlds, fearlessly。 。That decision falls a pall of loneliness on the Messiah。 His voice speaking the truth but the ears are deaf with illusions, people want to be saved by a miracle ! Those wretched souls have chosen to be miserable, they are afraid of freedom, thats why they keep themselves caged。。The truth turns them into mobs ! For they sense the weakness within, infuriated by the truth, they attack, destroy and annihilate any source of truth。 Crucifixion is the point in which the Messiah has accomplished his mission。。I found the structure of the book too simple and dull for the message behind it, I missed the heart beat that I found in his book “ Jonathan Livingston Seagull” which literally touched my soul。 。。。more
